Call it....Heads or Tails !
Tails...Tails it is....And Gloucester wins the coin toss! Yup Gloucester's Fishermen's Memorial statue was chosen from over 100 state landmarks to grace the quarter coin! Not only only did it win...it won in a landslide! Online voting over a three week period gathered 109,817 votes,in 2nd place was Lowell's National Historic Park with 26,582 votes while 3rd place was Salem's "House of Seven Gables" with 10,028 votes. The U.S.S. Constitution "Old Ironsides" managed 8,890 votes.
The statue was created by sculptor Leonard Craske in 1925 for $10,000. In 1923 the base was erected during Gloucester's 300th annivesary. The memorial honors the 10,000 Gloucester fishermen who were lost at sea. Us locals refer to him as "Man at the Wheel".

Atta boy, Jay. Nobody shoots him like you!
By the way, I think I see another Gloucester icon in that second to last photo!
More great shots of the Fishermen Statue! You and Steve really know how to capture Glaucester and all it's glory.
