It started out as wind and rain....lots of wind and rain. By 10:00pm the switch was on to snow. With the wet ground the snow took about 30 minutes to start to accumulate and when all was said and done a coating of 2" to 4" coated anything it stuck to. It was a good snow, pretty to look at while the snow blower stayed in the shed. Rockport harbor Grounded gulls and a wet motif! Gloucester City Hall Paint Factory A closer look. All tied up. Now officially winter, Christmas is on the door step. The last few days has been anything but Christmas weather but the weather gurus say we might have a white Christmas after all. From driving rain to mountainous seas the skies opened up to a beautiful late afternoon colorful sky. "The House" at Good Harbor beach. High tide at Pavilion Beach. The storm breaks, time for a beach stroll. Foamed over! Boiling sea! Rough seas! Salt Island blasted! Salt Island Wind turbine looms over footbridge. "Hard Merchandise" hauled out after sinking dockside. Stern view. "Phyllis A." and "Lisa Ann II" Schooners "Adventure" and "Highlander Sea" at rest. Turbine skyline! A "Glosta Monsta" in the background! Herring boats Christmas lights on the herring boats!

Since the early 1860's the Tarr & Wonson Paint Factory has guarded the entrance of Gloucester's inner harbor at Rock Neck. Even earlier in 1859 the Rocky Neck Marine Railways has been repairing vessels ever since. Today the Paint Factory is going through a long rehab to become the world headquarters of Ocean Alliance. I stopped at both locations to see how different the Gloucester skyline has become with the addition of three "Glosta Monstas", Varian, Gloucester Engineering and The City of Gloucester wind turbines. Old sloop Gear! Achooners "Highlander Sea" and "Adventure" A view from the main boom. From Smith Cove. Turbine & masts! Looming over a sidewheeler! Over Cruiseport Gloucester! Above Portugee Hill! From Niles Beach! The Paint Factory between the buildings. Outer most building. Brickwork More brickwork A view from the Paint Factory. While at the Paint Factory I spot this dory with a sailing rig off Ten Pound Island. This would have been a common sight in the 1800's! From the Route 128 extension!
