I didn't get out on the boat this week. I'm still leery of taking a boat out without a proper registration. Though I was told to have copies of the paperwork I sent in I still didn't feel confident. The wait was over and after a 1 month it and finally arrived this weekend. Saturday I spent time checking everywhere in town to find the right 3" lettering with no luck. Then went "up the line" in Danvers and tried West Marine, Home Depot by the Mall, Lowes on Rt 114 with no luck then I found them at the Home Depot on Rt 1. Trying to apply decals when it's windy with the boat bobbing up and down isn't easy! Removing the old decals was tedious. When I was done the engine wouldn't start! The starter wouldn't even engage. I thought the shifter was out of whack still in gear but with playing around with it nothing. Then I trimmed up the engine a bit and the starter engaged but still wouldn't start. I took the engine cover off and saw one port with no hose hooked up to it. I searched for a loose hose and didn't find one. It ran great the few times I used the boat and figured there was no hose hooked up there to begin with.
I resigned to calling an outboard mechanic and headed home. Just as I left the dock I bumped into the dock owner Alex who asked how everything was, I said great if I could get the engine running. He asked to look at it. He managed to find the loose hose and hooked it up. Still wouldn't start, he asked if the kill switch clip was in place and it was. The kill switch is different from my last boat Instead of a "C" shape clip which pulls out the entire switch the Honda clip has 3 finger and the middle one pushes in a small button. I removed the clip and kept pressing the button, it was stuck but I eventually loosened it up and the engine started! Sometimes it takes another pair of eyes to save you a ton of money!
