As Newell Stadium renewal continues I couldn't help but notice the bright red aluminum panels that trim the bleachers. Red was the school's colors in the 50's and 60's and in the early 1970's football coach Bob Yates was hired. Yates a one time Boston Patriot had been an assistant coach at Harvard and brought the crimson color with him. As I took some shots with the sun high above the red shows very bright, late afternoon shots it darkens almost to crimson. But I'm pretty sure the red will pop under the lights of a night game. Whatever the color this new athletic field is going to be something, gone are the warped stands, gone are the pot holes in the undersized track and gone is the field of salty mud!

the official school colors of GHS are crimson and cream, though variations of those two have been used throughout the generations.
