Massive,huge,imposing,colossal,gigantic,enormous and probably a dozen more synonyms could describe this mega sized wind turbine. Looming about 565'above sea level over Cape Ann, all the major components have been assembled and is waiting for it's December 1st start up. Located at Varian Semiconductor Associates the 2.5 Mega-Watt turbine itself is 492' tall from the base to the tip of the rotor, the rotor has a diameter of 328'! Imagine a football field whirling above you! Just down the street at Gloucester Engineering two more wind turbines rated at 2 Mega-Watts each will rise soon providing 90%-100% of the power needs for the City of Gloucester's municipal buildings.
