Our 10 year old dog Molly has had a difficult week. For the past 4 days she's been very lethargic and loosing her appitite. So on tuesday I took her to the vet. They took blood and it showed positive for lyme disease. With meds perscribed the vet thinks she will make a complete recovery. About 10:30 last night she was out in the yard doing her buisness when suddenly she took off like a rocket! She was heading on the same path as we take every day on our walk. There is a school next to my house and that's where she was going. She walks the perimeter of the school's field so I tried to cut her off and I did. But when I leaned over to pick her up she let out a yelp which froze me for a second. She was back at top speed heading back towards home. But she kept on going....like a greyhound! Her command to stop is WAIT but when I yelled that she went faster! She's never done this before,I think the meds had something to do with it. Maybe if I took those meds I would be able to keep up but that wasn't to be. My sister, niece and nephew took up the search with my wife and I for several hours with no luck. I figured she was exhausted and curled up in someones yard and would have to wait until daylight to search again. I kept the front gate open in case she came back. I was dozing off on the couch looking through the storm door expecting to see her eyes and ears peering through the window wanting to come in. About a minute later(1:45 am) there she was trotting into the yard. She was shivering and stunk awful! She either got into someones freshly fertized garden or made it down to the docks. She's only a dog.....Ya right!

I'm so glad your story had a good ending! I have seen Molly on your blog before. That lyme disease is a tough one on dogs. Happy to hear things are better. She's wonderful. Love the pictures of her.
Thank goodness Molly came home safe and sound! I'd be panicking if one of our dogs took off at night but we live near a major road so luck would not be on their side.
Hope the meds kick in quickly! I certainly know what it's like to have a dog with Lyme. They are very uncomfortable and sometimes in pain. Those darned ticks!
Thanks Sharon, she is coming around slowly but noticable. She's got her appitite back and is walking alot better. She barked today for the first time in about 5days. I took her for a ride today and walked her at Stage Fort Park....or should I say she walked me! That perked her up a bit.
I think our Dalmatian was around 9 or 10 years old when she had Lyme. She couldn't get up and lay there moaning. When a high energy dog acts like that you know something is wrong.
If Molly didn't bark for 5 days she must have been REALLY sick! Beagles LOVE to bark. lol!
What a beauty your sweet Molly is !!! We have a puggle/Sydney and she is more beagle than pug...
I hope she is better real soon Jay, poor baby...
Kathy :)
