The Japanese defense forces couldn't stop Godzilla.....I captured the beast!
Spied this over Route 128 on my way home from work. Dirty windshield and strong sun glare I had to darken the image and crop out the sun. That's the only edit to what's probably my worse quality image. I figured some would get a kick out of it so I posted the pic on facebook. A few shares later it's gone world wide! Who would of thunk it?

Why I created this......

Born and raised in Gloucester, Ma fishing gets in your blood. Surrounded by the sea, kids here have a boat almost as much as kids elsewhere have bicycles! As I grew older my fishing ambitions gave way to what's around me. Although I still "drop a line" every so often, my attention wanders to the majesty of the natural light that make this place so special. Never is each day the same. The subjects may be the same but the light from the sea & sky will morph the subject into a form of art. For that reason artists have been drawn to these shores for several hundred years, they followed the light painting and sketching these surroundings. What artists capture with paint on canvas, I attempt to capture with a click.....if I'm lucky!

I guess that's a sort of Fish'n!

Shooting the Moon !

I had forgot the moon was to make it's closest approach to earth in years. While running an errand downtown I got a glimpse of it and was mad at myself for not having the camera with me. I rushed home grabbed the tripod and camera only to see the moon covered by clouds. I finally saw it break through the clouds but only for a moment.

The day before the temps almost touched 70 degrees!

City skyline at sundown.

Harbor Cove.

The moon turned white the higher it went.

Back lit blue sky!

Moon shows through!

More Waterfront faces.

Fishing is so vital to this community, it's the fishermen, dock workers and a host of others who keeps the heritage going. For years fish stocks declined to the point of government intervention to institute rules and regulations. The rules were never easy for the fishermen but they knew more than others it was a necessary step to assure continued fishing. Now according to science the fish stocks have rebounded yet fishermen are strangled by ever tightened regulations. Some say most fish stocks are 76% above sustainable limits yet the fishermen are only allowed about 23% to land!
Adjustments need to be made, the imbalance is forcing fishermen to re-think their livelihood. What is needed to assure jobs and a way of life is a correction of this balance to allow the fish AND the fishermen to survive!

Grey Skies and Green Seas !

Depending on the sky the coast can take on a different look. The other day grey skies and a year ago this week a Nor'easter battered the coast.

Waterfront Faces !

With all the gulls, boats and weather related scenes I capture I have to admit I overlook those who make up the heart of the waterfront.....the people. Gloucester's working waterfront is made up with people with many different backgrounds. A snapshot of the United States all working on our slab of granite. This is a first of a series. Here I assembled images from May to mid August 2010.
