On December 14, 2007 an eight alarm fire consumed the Lorraine apartments along with Temple Ahavat Achim. Also the tragic loss of apartment resident Robert Taylor after an heroic effort to save him by the Gloucester police and fire departments. The aftermath resulted in an outpouring of help for the homeless victims. Residents and buisnesses opened their hearts and wallets in an incredable effort to re-establish new homes for the displaced. While funds to rebuild the Temple came from not only the community but also far and wide. Next door to the Temple is the Sawyer Free Library, through the efforts of the firefighters the library was saved!
Some of these images which I haven't posted before were lost when my computer crashed a few months ago. Luckily I was able to find them.
About 20 minutes after the first call of fire came in!

I remember thay night being so cold and the wind whipping. These guys had a very hard night.I didn't know who to feel sorry for more the poeple who lived there or the fire fighters.
Amazing pictures. So glad you were able to find them. The fire and police do have a very difficult job. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Janet
