Tragedy At Sea !
Little did I know that on a clear day such as this drama was unfolding 15 miles off Gloucester. The 54' fishing vessel "Patriot" had gone down with both crewmen aboard. I was out taking pictures when I saw the Coast Guard Jayhawk approaching Station Gloucester. Thinking it was another training exercise I clicked away when I discovered back home.... they were actually bringing in the victims. Two more of "The Finest Kind" lost to the sea.

Jay, I've been away from your blog for too long. What a terrible tragedy for the families of the two fisherman. It's not on the news up here but I see it's on the boston news websites. I know nothing about fishing or fisherman but I can't imagine being out to sea on a freezing cold, windy day like today.
Your photo's are amazing! I LOVE the call of the wild. And the shot of the water coming out of the boat is so simple yet it's great. All of them are excellent.
What kind of ducks are those in the bottom picture?
Sharon
Sharon,
Sad day in Gloucester. I found out it was a father of one and another on the way and his father-in-law who were lost at sea.
I'm no bird expert but I believe the duck are Common Eiders.
Jay
Isn't that awful. I can't even imagine something so terrible.
Hi Jay,
Awesome photos of the eider. Do you have any more of eider or sea ducks?
Best,
Nate
Thanks Nate !
The "sea ducks" are difficult to "capture". They are skiddish even when I'm on my boat, those two I was lucky....I was on the dock when they appeared from behind a boat. When they saw me they turned tail and that's when I "caught" them!
