My day started at 1am when my sump pump failed. My gas hot water heater and gas furnace was starting to go under water and I started bailing away. After about 20 minutes the water was still gaining on me so a call to the Gloucester Fire Department was made. The crew from Engine 4 arrived luckily with the last portable pump available. Thanks to them I was able to replace my sump pump with a new one this afternoon and no damage to the water heater or the furnace. Then just before 6pm I hear a report of a fire on Bass Rocks Road. Flames consumed an attached garage and again thanks to the Gloucester Firefighters no one was hurt and they saved the home!
Fire on the rocks!
Rainbow through the smoke!
Engulfed in smoke.
Fighting the fire.
Fire breaks through.
Flames!
Surrounding the house.
High pressure!
Back of the house.
Hauling hose.
Ladder on the way.
Fire in the window.
Putting up a ladder.
Part of roof gone.
Under control.
Engine 6 and the Back Shore.
Looking back as I head home.

Great shots Jay. Ive said before and I'll say it again Our fire department is the best. I had a similar problem and like you I called them and they were there in a minute to help. A bunch of good guys and gals. We are very lucky to have them.I hope to see you soon , Its been a while...Frank
Excellent Pictures, Jay! I love that house --- they used to have a statue of an owl in one of the upstairs windows. Such a shame.
Thanks Hank, Frank and Kathleen!
I didn't see any visable smoke get into the main house, again great work of the GFD! I think that owl was there to keep the seagulls away.
