It's been a windy week and with the temps in the low 30's during the day and mid 20's at night it feels like the middle of Winter instead of late Fall. The last two days I compiled these images from around town.
The last photo of this series is what we as kids in Gloucester called a "jigger". The name comes from a low platform cart with wagon type wheels, some with two wheels and others with four and were used in the fishing industry in Gloucester way back up to the turn of the 20th century. They were used along the docks to haul fish, nets, barrels among other things. Some were large enough to be pulled by horses.
The ones we built similar to the one below had a pivoting front axle and you steered either by a rope or your feet as you speed down a hill. An un-glorified Soap Box Derby car! There were no video games back then...You built your on entertainment!

You sure that,s a plow? Looks like a jigger pusher , to wipe out the other guy like a cow catcher.
That Jigger brings back alot of memories.I still have some scars from those days.....LOL
Sounds like the cold weather is moving in everywhere. The 'jigger' reminded me of some hair raising escapades from my youth as well!
Thanks for sharing these scenes Jay. Cheers Frank.
P.S. At long last I've added you to my reader list.
When I was a kid we built a similar contraption with baby carriage wheels and boards hammered together. Then we took the shell of an old washing machine my Dad had gutted and mounted it on the platform, we painted it Army green, mounted a toy machine gun on the top in front of the lid and pretended it was a tank. All the kids in the neighborhood wanted rides in it.
