Sunday was just another day working on the waterfront as I headed down the the Gloucester Seafood Display Auction. Early in the morning I was waiting for the "Princess Laura" to arrive from her berth at the Jodrey Fish Pier. Looking across the harbor as she made her way over, we noticed her slowing down. Eventually the vessel came to a stop in the middle of the south channel! A call to the skipper from the dock manager revealed the linkage between the engine and prop shaft had failed. The vessel was hapless as she drifted towards the shallower mooring field. At low tide with a belly full of fish there was concern she would hit the rocks that are submerged there. Quick thinking by her crew they deployed the starboard door, normally used to spread the net as they dragged to use as an anchor. It worked and her drifting came to a stop. Next the call was made to have the "Capt. Joe" tow her into the Fish Auction. The "Capt. Joe" was scheduled to unload her fish after the "Princess Laura" was offloaded. Dispite tight quarters the "Capt. Joe" was able to bring her crippled counterpart to the dock to offload.
"Princess Laura" comes to a stop.
Door deployed as dory rows by.
"Capt. Joe" arrives.

Ready with dock lines.
