Birth and Death of a Funnel Cloud!

Monday morning an F-2 tornado struck Revere about 25 miles south from here. Many homes and businesses were damaged but luckily only few minor injuries. Here we had a brief downpour and rumble of thunder. Just about 6:45 pm I was working in the yard when I noticed clouds building. I grabbed my camera and headed up the hill behind my house where we have sweeping views looking west from south to north. After a few shots of impressive cloud formations I began to notice rotation at the base of the clouds. Micro funnels appeared and disappeared then a larger more defined funnel took shape. From beginning to end I guess it didn't last for more than a minute but was amazing to see. This is a rare event for here, tornado's are something we only hear about from the midwest but over the past few years conditions for tornado's have increased. June of 2013 I captured one from the same spot and luckily the same outcome. Lets hope our luck holds for the future!

Sunrise to a Smokey Haze Sunset!

As my midnight shift was winding down I noticed a pink/orange light rising in the east. Time to grab the camera and wait for the suns arrival. Late afternoon i headed over to the Rocky Neck Marine Railways and check out what projects are on the "ways". Then it was a short walk up the hill behind my house to check out the sunset. A light smokey haze from far away Canadian wildfires added a special touch.

 St. Ann's and the setting sun. Look close and the two specks on the sun are gulls and an airliner behind the top of the steeple.

Fog and Sunset, Nature Puts on a Show!

On Wednesday heavy rains fell only to let up late afternoon. Fog started to settle in so I figured it might be a good time to get some fog shots. I headed over to Stacy Boulevard and began to shoot. After a few shots of the Fishermen's Memorial I got back into my truck to head towards Stage Fort Park. As I was crossing the Blynman Bridge something caught my eye. For a brief moment I saw what looked like a house on fire! I turned around only to discover it was the sun reflecting from the windows of a house which sits along the canal. After parking I walked over the bridge then saw the sun breaking through the fog. It was an awesome sight, something unexpected a combination of fog and sun creating a painting like scene that was constantly changing.

After that show I headed over to Good Harbor Beach where at first only encountered the fog. But within about 10 minutes the sun began its pastel talents. 

Finally in the fading light I headed over to Niles Beach for the last gasp in natures sky show.

Summer Time!

Each day can and does bring a different face to Good Harbor Beach. It all depends on the weather and time of day. I also included some images from this years St. Peter's Fiesta.
