The Japanese defense forces couldn't stop Godzilla.....I captured the beast!
Spied this over Route 128 on my way home from work. Dirty windshield and strong sun glare I had to darken the image and crop out the sun. That's the only edit to what's probably my worse quality image. I figured some would get a kick out of it so I posted the pic on facebook. A few shares later it's gone world wide! Who would of thunk it?

Why I created this......

Born and raised in Gloucester, Ma fishing gets in your blood. Surrounded by the sea, kids here have a boat almost as much as kids elsewhere have bicycles! As I grew older my fishing ambitions gave way to what's around me. Although I still "drop a line" every so often, my attention wanders to the majesty of the natural light that make this place so special. Never is each day the same. The subjects may be the same but the light from the sea & sky will morph the subject into a form of art. For that reason artists have been drawn to these shores for several hundred years, they followed the light painting and sketching these surroundings. What artists capture with paint on canvas, I attempt to capture with a click.....if I'm lucky!

I guess that's a sort of Fish'n!

From Sailing Regatta to Whale Watchers to a "Fly By" !

This past saturday a sailing regatta was held in the outer harbor consisting of high school teams from around the region. The winds were brisk and the skies were clear, perfect for sailing. In the meantime whale watch boats are still taking the tourists out and the schooner "Roseway" comes in for her yearly maintenance.
While I was drifting trying to photograph the regatta I hear what sounded like a mini jet engine! Looking up towards my bow was a windsurfer heading right at me! He was moving fast, very fast and no time for me to get the boat in gear and out of the way! My heart skipped a beat when he turned away at the last second! He passed about two feet along my starboard side yelling like a cowboy as he sped away!

Bolger Boats !

Gloucester's own Phil Bolger who passed away in May was one of the most prolific boat designers ever! With close to 700 designs to his credit his designs ranged from the smallest 8' pram to the 18th century 115' "HMS Surprise". Many of his designs were geared to the "do it yourselve" boat builders using plywood and basic tools. Simple, tough and efficient went into his designs and a cult like following admired his gift. This past Saturday a memorial of his life was held at the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center and along with family and friends, so were many of his creations.

Hula Hooping at the Block Party!

Another succesful Gloucester Downtown Block Party, the last in this years series that has promoted the shopping, entertainment and places to dine the downtown has to offer. It's also becoming the place to meet, something lost when the era of out of town mall shopping became popular.
