It was never planned, I was heading down the docks to get a glimpse of the new US Navy prototype patrol vessel being built at Maritime Gloucester and finding the boathouse closed.(More later) While there the damaged Greasy Pole was being towed by on the way to Rose's Marine. Then I had a conversation with Owner/builder of Gloucester's newest schooner the "
Ardelle". During the conversation Harold Burnham invited me on a late afternoon sail! I jumped at the chance, believe it or not this was my first time sailing on a sailing vessel! All my life living in Gloucester I've been on just about anything that floats. From row boats to fishing boats,Boston Whalers, party boats, cruise ships and lobster boats but never out sailing with the wind! And with a steady breeze it turned out to be a perfect day. While waiting to depart the 154' schooner "Highlander Sea" entered the harbor. I'm not sure of her long term plans but I hear she's calling Gloucester home for now! Then to make a great day even better the topsail schooner "Lynx" out of Long Beach,Ca. appeared on the horizon as we escorted her into the harbor. What a sight,a sort of unplanned Schooner Festival!

Ah! I saw the Lynx coming in but the sun was still way to the south and I was fighting the haze. I got a shot of the Ardelle behind the Lynx. It was too cool. I'm glad you had better lighting!
