Cold Snap Turns Deadly!

Five house fires in the past ten days has the Gloucester Fire Department busy. Thanks to their efforts they have contained all those fires from spreading in dense neighborhoods. However late Saturday night one resident was lost when fire consumed her Windsor Lane home. Reports indicate there was no functioning smoke detector in the home. Please check to make sure your smoke detectors function properly! And if you must use a space heater be sure no combustible material is near and DON'T leave them unattended! Ealier in the day a fire broke out at a Maplewood Avenue home. Heavy smoke could be seen from East Gloucester and by the time I got there firefighters had the fire knocked down and saved the rest of the house from further damage. Fast Moving Fire, Neighborhood Saved!

It was around 10:30pm when I could see an orange glow of a fire out my window across the harbor. Soon I turned on my scanner and the call for a structure fire at 9 Perkins Street came in. It was a fast moving fire in a three story multi-family home, from what I hear everyone evacuated safely and again the Gloucester Fire Department did an outstanding job preventing the fire from spreading in this tight neighborhood. More from the Gloucester Times A very tight neighborhood! Third floor engulfed. Gloucester Times photographer Desi Smith gets some shots. Firefighters working in the rear of the house. From Good Harbor Beach to Lanes Cove!

Any time of year Good Harbor Beach is a great spot to photograph as is Lanes Cove. The old Lobster shack at Lanes Cove is getting a make over. Volunteers and donations have helped the work along with recycled material from the Tarr & Wonson Paint Factory! In this post I start with a morning stop at the beach with an August shot thrown in and a quick stop to Rocky Neck. Good Harbor Beach in August! This week I spotted a lone photographer. Wind Turbines! Low tide at Smith Cove. "Elizabeth Ann" "Lisa Ann II" New LED floodlights aboard the "Lisa Ann II"! City skyline over the Boulevard. Lanes Cove Lobster pots. The shack and lobster pots. Another view And a closer look.
