Weather Related !

On this post I came across images that are slightly different from when I originally posted them. Most actually were never posted but were from the same batch that were. In other words, after I culled what to post, these were the leftovers. The cutting room scraps!

Coddock! Possible Cod/Haddock Hybrid?

The inshore dragger "Bantry Bay" skippered by Dan Murphy recently landed an unusual specimen, with coloring of a Cod and features of a Haddock this is the second known landing of this hybrid fish. Back in March of 2007 the Rockport dragger "Terminator" landed a similar specimen.

Also in this post I headed to Newburyport and caught the "Early Times" coming in to offload. And Josh catching a gull chick that wandered into the offloading dock at Gloucester Seafood Display Auction looking for a free meal.

Man Overboard!

In this case it was a youngster overboard! I was walking along the dock when one of the workers saw someone fall overboard from a small sailboat. With camera in hand we worked our way to the end of the pier to see if we could assist. When things like this happen you think of stuff like try to get someone's attention on the tiller and swing the boat port towards the float and be ready to put the camera down. Luckily the crew remained calm, including the youngster in the water and he was hauled back in.
Meanwhile back on the dock and waiting for a boat to arrive Eric tried his hand...or should I say his body at a new fad called "Planking"! I guess the idea is to make your body stiff as a board and perch yourself on things. There is such a thing, I looked it up! It appears "Planking" started in England. Leave it to the Brits to come up with a boring fad!

Beneath The Wings !

Sunday while waiting for boats to arrive at Fishermen's Wharf, the "Midnight Sun" was unloading Whiting. And it must be a gull favorite too judging by the crowd that came from above! And I was lucky enough not to be "bombed" by them! Also a few more from the past week.

Getting ready to go into action.

A Busy,Lazy and Hazy Week !

Learning my job is ending with records temps( it reached 104 degrees F with a dew point of 74) and heavy downpours, the last few days have been interesting to say the least. On Saturday the rowing race around Cape Ann, The Blackburn Challenge was held. Normally I'd be a "chase boat" but declined this year due to job commitments.

A pause in the offload as downpour hits the dock.
