I took a couple of photo's of "sea ducks" that looked a bit odd. Because I took them at a great distance I wasn't sure what I had. But when enlarged them on the computer I could see they were "Punk Ducks"!
The weathermen are trying their best to predict what we'll get on a storm that's suppose to hit in the morning. Some say we'll get 3"-6" of snow then change to rain. Others say 6" - 10" of mostly snow. Anyway with clear skies, it was a good day to get out and a good day to mend nets.
It happened around 8:00 am this morning when Gloucester was rocked by a house explosion at 76 Eastern Ave. The home of police officer Wayne Sargent was leveled and he was flown to a hospital in Boston. He was the only one home at the time and had arrived home earlier after completing his shift. My wife's aunt and uncle live directly across the street from the explosion and were home along with their grand daughter. Luckily they weren't hurt. But several windows were shattered by flying debris and some of the siding and a shutter was damaged. Her uncle is a retired Gloucester firefighter and got on the phone right away to call the fire department. Update 1/26/09: Wayne is doing better but there's a long way to go. He opened his eyes this morning and it looks like his eyesight and hearing is coming along. In the meantime his fellow officers are starting a collection for their fellow police officer. If you would like to contribute the address is: "The Gloucester Fund...Wayne Sargent" 45 Middle Street Gloucester,Ma 01930
