It's not just the sporting events of the St. Peter's Fiesta that I go to see,it's the people and things you don't normally run into that makes this time of year special!
It's not "soda" and not "pop" or even "soda pop" it's "tonic"!
It's a "rotary" not a "roundabout"!
"Going up the line" is a term used when leaving the island!
A "jigga"is a homemade powerless go-cart!
It's not "Break Time or Coffee Break" it's "Mug-up"!
It's not a "water fountain" it's a "Bubbla"!

Fog..... and so was the event! The most un-organized Fiesta that I can remember! It's time to re-think the starting times for these events. With fog slowly enveloping the harbor, the Greasy Pole was interupted to run a seine boat race. Then the announcer had trouble keeping track of the grease walking contestants! I felt bad for those on the pole...it was cold! And being wet didn't help them.Perhaps someone on the platform with a walkie-takie would help! So as the time closed in on 8:00 pm I hauled anchor, before the winning walk! Even my nephew and his friend couldn't wait to get home!

It didn't look good on the radar screen but I saw a possible window to head out and document the Fiesta. The plan was to check out the USS Whidbey Island, the 609' LPD-41 and then anchor near the greasy pole. After about 20 minutes it was clear that the sky's could cause havoc. And with high tide the "pole" was obscured by lobster boats anchored too close to the platform to get any decent shots. Lightning all around and what looked like funnel clouds made my mind up to haul anchor and head back to the dock.

In this blog I talk about light,Cape Ann light to be specific. The ever changing light that draws artist of canvas and camera. But recent events has the world's media portraying Gloucester in a different light. A recent thread on Cape Ann Online's forum titled "What's so good about Gloucester"? Has inspired me to create this post. Rainbow over the fleet, Kids fishing,Fall colors,Niles Pond in the winter and sunsets that can make one pause and reflect about our world are only a few reasons "What's so good about Gloucester"!
